Vocalist Janice Mitchell and Pianist Jim Beishline are both are natives of Western New York, but performed throughout the world before resettling in this area. Their unique sound features gospel-blues backgrounds that subtly flavor their polished jazz standard arrangements. Jim Beishline is recognized and respected among his peers for his superb style, exhibited in his trio arrangements for piano, upright bass, and drums. Beishline’s piano styles span the full spectrum from blues to jazz and his versatile talent is featured on many local recordings. He has performed with local and nationally acclaimed artists, including Muddy Waters, Mike Civisca, Spyro Gyra, Tony Galla, Chuck Berry, Sal Andolina, Billy McEwin, Danny & The Juniors, Chuck Harrington, Wendell Rivera, Patty Coyle, Jeff Hackworth, and Rick Strauss. In 2011, Beishline had the opportunity to play piano with Aretha Franklin and her band when they performed in Western New York. Jim’s quartet was voted the Top Jazz Group by Buffalo Music Awards in 2000.
Janice Mitchell’s extensive musical background includes five world tours as a backup singer for Ray Charles (as a Raelette). She has also provided backup vocals for Stevie Wonder, Fabian, and many more. Mitchell has recorded with a long list of musical giants, including Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Nancy Wilson, Les McCann, and many others. Her exceptional talents have taken her to the showrooms of Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas casinos, as well as cruise ships. Movie fans may recognize Mitchell from her appearance and vocals in the Sidney Poitier film Uptown Saturday Night. Mitchell was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2000.
In 2009, the duet of Beishline and Mitchell were sponsored by the London Council of the Arts to perform in the UK at their annual jazz festival in coastal Wales.
